UTSAV SHAH
I am Utsav Shah, a Bombay boy who is residing in NYC these days. From a tender age I was a hyperactive kid and could never sit in one place. Well growing up I found out a way to put the hyperactiveness to some use, DANCE.
I have been dancing since the age of 9. It started off as an hobby, going to classes, performing on stage got me quite some appreciation. Cut to when I was 16 years old, I joined Terence Lewis Academy where I was introduced to contemporary and danced extensively for over a year in the style.
After my Xth Std boards I got admitted in college and acted as the Dance Head, where I lead my college team to 2nd place in the intercollege competition. However, I was still intrigued by Contemporary and was searching ways to train in the style again. I came across SKI ( Sneha Kapoor’s Institute ) and was selected to work as an Instructor. I trained under Sneha Kapoor for over 2 years where I learned the details about how to construct a class and as an instructor what information is necessary to provide.
Although having to teach constantly for 2 years I was leaning more towards learning more and to have depth in terms of knowledge. I joined, Eden Pereira for contemporary and trained with him for 3 years. I was lacking technique and Eden focusses on technique and choreography equally which is a perfect balance for me. Besides, training with Eden I was also taking drop-in classes for Hip Hop. Building the vocabulary of Hip Hop I learned about the history which I am still learning to this day.
Coming to 2020, I flew to USA to earn my degree in Construction Management (M.E). I passed out in May 2021 and till today I have been taking open classes under Cat Cogliandro, Kenichi Kasamtsu, Sam Javi and more.
My purpose is to learn and provide to the community and soon I will put the plan in my mind to picture.
